| Letter to the Parents
|
Dear Parent,
Many parents are apprehensive to say the least about sending their son off to college. Never mind joining a fraternity. Parents voice concerns about grades, hazing, and drinking. Indeed, these are all very legitimate concerns. Here at Delta Chi we pride ourselves on scholarship, character, and brotherhood.
Delta Chi has a very strong academic program that relies on the experience of others inside the fraternity to help each other succeed. This program is proven, because it is not forced and it relies on the responsibility of your son, and the friendships built through membership in Delta Chi. You might be skeptical as to how effective this plan really is. Just this last spring we achieved the highest GPA on campus for a fraternity, and our cumulative GPA was also the highest. Also because associate members are required to achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be initiated into the bond of Delta Chi this adds as an additional push to achieve good grades.
As a member of Delta Chi your son will not be subject to any hazing. He will go through a new member education process that teaches the history of the Greek System and Delta Chi. As a national fraternity, Delta Chi prides itself as being the first fraternity to abolish the hazing events of “hell week”. Since 1929 the Delta Chi fraternity has been hazing free and follows this very strictly. In addition to this, BGSU also has created numerous rules to stop hazing, and any chapter found guilty is subject to removal from the campus. Finally, state laws strictly prohibit hazing in any campus organization or sports team.
For over the past 20 years fraternities have been stereotyped as binge drinking and drug abusing organizations. Because of the organized nature and focal point that a fraternity creates on a campus, fraternities were an obvious victim of stereotyping that in actuality plagues the university as a whole. As you know your son is more than capable of going to parties and drinking without being a member of a fraternity, but as a member of Delta Chi he participates in events that are strictly monitored by a risk management officer. Also members are held responsible to follow the rules set forth by our national headquarters and the Fraternal Insurance Purchasing Group.
Membership in Delta Chi will give to your son numerous experiences and memories that will help shape his life for the better. Parents are encouraged to participate in events along with their son and may sit in on any chapter meeting. I look forward to seeing you in the future!
