History Of Delta Chi
The Delta Chi Fraternity has a very diverse and interesting history both at Bowling Green State University and as a national organization. Listed below are short descriptions of the events of our past.

Founding of the Fraternity

Fall 2002, Spring 2003
The Bowling Green Chapter began their year by moving into their house with a new House Director. Donald Terry Weber took the place of the beloved, graduating Jim Mahoney. Like usual, we kicked the semester off with a chapter retreat and a huge focus on fall rush. With the help of Alpha Phi, we held a cookout behind our house that sparked great interest in the young chapter. We also implemented a "rush crew" in the fall. The crew was made up of friends of the brothers, who walked through the residence halls to bring men to the chapter house. At the end of rush week, Delta Chi had 12 proud associate members. In October, the chapter invited area alumni and the bothers' parents to our house for a day of fun. We started the day with lunch in downtown Bowling Green, then returned to the house for introductions and an awards presentation. The day ended with everyone going to watch the #16 ranked BGSU football team stay undefeated. For Halloween, the chapter kept up with its great tradition by having the 3rd annual "Haunted Hydro" with Delta Zeta. As the fall semester came to a close, it was time to do two things. First, the chapter held its semi-formal event in Windsor, Ontario. Attendance was very high and a good time was had by all. The last thing to do before winter break, was to hold officer elections. Notably, President Elliot Gornall was replaced by former "D" Matthew Recchiuti, and former "F" Chad Fertick, stepped up to become AMC. Gornall remained as an officer by being elected to "C". After returning from a long winter break, the chapter was more than ready to start recruiting again. With the help of the spring rush crew, our chapter was the most visited house during rush week. After carefully selecting the best men, five AM's were pinned and the pledge education program began. In March, we held another chapter retreat at the student union. Our chapter was lucky to have HQ leadership consultant Reed Davis in attendance. The chapter also heard some words of wisdom from recently graduating alumni Scott Kazura and Pete Kemper. In the spring, we were paired with Alpha Chi Omega for Dance Marathon. Together we raised an overwhelming amount of money to donate to the Children's Miracle Network. BGSU as a whole raised over $300,000 for the kids. With April came Greek Week. Our partners were the ladies of Chi Omega, and we were more than happy to participate with them. Strong showings in every event led the chapter to win second prize in the overall week award.

Spring 2002
Our Spring semester brought the chapter three new recruits. This also marked the Chartering of the Delta Chi Colony, it was now the Delta Chi Chapter of Bowling Green State University. The chartering banquet was held in the Toledo Zoo. The entire chapter was very pleased with how the evening went.

Fall 2001
Our fall semester began with the usual chapter retreat, where we set goals for ourselves academically, fraternally, and personally. Then on freshmen move-in day, we helped move new students into their dorms. We used this as a recruitment tool that paid off well in the end. Our informal and formal recruitment efforts yielded a ten man pledge class, which was the largest pledge class in two years. After the hard work of recruitment, the chapter rewarded ourselves with two fantastic social events with sororities we had never associated with before. We also continued the annual “haunted hydro” event with Delta Zeta. Our community service efforts continued through the fall when we participated in the Adopt-a-Highway and Adopt-a-Family programs. The fall pledge class was also involved by planning and coordinating a community service event. December came in with a bang when we held our semi-formal dinner/dance event in downtown Toledo. Our seniors were the guests of honor, and every man took home some good memories of the evening. Finally before the semester ended, a brand new E-Board was elected. New men accepted the great responsibilities that their jobs entail, as the older brothers stepped down to a position as advisers to the chapter. The momentum built up in the Spring of 2001 definitely pushed us though the Fall term.

Spring 2001
During our first weekend back we held a small retreat to discuss our goals for the semester and recruitment. Erik Kerstetter came to visit form January 27-30. the following week we held formal recruitment. On February 2-4 some of the brothers attended the Regional Conference at Kent State University. On February 18 we held an initiation for those who did not get initiated in the Fall of 2000. Joe Burak came to visit from February 25-28. On February 15th we held an Officer Retreat at our BB’s house. This was a great success for our officers. It allowed them to spend time to just sit back and talk to one another about their roles and expectations of one another. On march 24-25 we participated in Dance Marathon and on March 31 we held our first Soccer Philanthropy. During April we participated in Greek Week, where we won numerous awards, and at the end on April we participated in the BETA 500, where we took second. Finally, as always, we ended the academic year with Spring Awards on April 29.

Fall 2000
During September we had a consultant visit the colony and also had formal recruitment. After formal recruitment ended on September 19 we held a pinning on the 29th. We held an Open House on October 28 for those interested in looking to join Delta Chi. This was one of our informal recruitment events. We held our initiation on the 19th of November and a consultant came to visit the colony from the 26th – 29th of November. In December we participated in Adopt-a-Family. This was our big community service project for the semester.

Spring 2000
he spring semester started out with the consultant Brian Martin coming to visit the colony. All of the officers met with Brian to discuss what they had been doing and to look for guidance on what to do in the future. After having formal recruitment we held a pinning ceremony with the ladies of Sigma Kappa Sorority. On January 30 we held a brotherhood for the Super Bowl. During the month of February we went to the Regional Conference down at Ohio State University. Once we got back to Bowling Green we held a Mia Tia Tea with Delta Zeta. During the March we had another consultant come to visit the colony. During April the colony stayed very busy. We participated in Greek Week and held our first Formal. We also went to Spring Awards and held initiation on April 16. During the summer Convention was held in Phoenix. We held nominations during our last chapter meeting for who would attend to represent the colony. Arthur Funni was elected to attend and he came back with very interesting ideas and ways to improve our colony.

Fall 1999
The fall semester for the Delta Chi Colony began even before school started in late August. A couple of the brothers attended the Jackson Leadership Academy held on August 6-8. They brought back some very insightful knowledge and ideas for our colony to use. The next thing we as colony did was to have our semester retreat. This was held at Maumee Bay State Park. There we camped out and discussed goals for the semester and for recruitment. On November 19 we held our annual Founder’s Day dinner. On this particular night it was held at a local restaurant, Kaufman’s. The following day we all drove to Tri-State University for Initiation.

Spring 1999
The spring of 1999 was am exciting semester for us. It started out with a retreat at the Off Campus Student Center. This is where we decided on what our goals were going to be for the colony for the semester. One of our main concerns was what we were going to do for rush and where we were going to hold it. On January 25-27 and February 2-3 we held our formal rush at two of the dorms on campus, MacDonald and Rogers. We recruited 3 men from our formal rush. They were pinned by the ladies of Alpha Phi on February 17. In March, during our spring break, some of the brothers went to the Regional Conference at West Virginia Tech. The all had a wonderful experience except for diving in the snow. On March 21 we had our first initiation. After our initiation was held the semester was quickly coming to an end. We finished up the spring of 1999 by participating in Greek Week and attending the Spring Awards banquet.

Fall 1998
Delta Chi at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio began in the Fall of 1998. Headquarters staff arrived on campus in early October. Shaun Wardle and Tom Carroll, Leadership Consultants, and Bill Tallman, Director of Chapter Services, were responsible for starting a colony of Delta Chi at BGSU. They quickly found about 15 men who were interested in starting “a different kind of fraternity” at BGSU. Potential members and area Alumni attended a luncheon at the Junction Bar & Grill on October 11, 1998. In attendance at this initial gathering were Bill Tallman, Shaun Wardle, Tom Carroll, Retiring “AA” Paul Bohlman, Regent Jeff Schoenher, Greek Advisor Lisa Fedler, Delta Chi Alumni Marv Myers, Bruce Miller, and Trent Unterbrink, and potential members Pete Kemper, Mike Willer, and Dave Bewsey. This initial gathering was a huge success that clearly illustrated the support for the colony. All of the alumni in attendance at this event went on to serve on the colony’s initial ABT. Bruce Miller served as the ABT’s first president and Trent Unterbrink continues to serve as the colony’s founding BB.

The first real meeting of the men who were to be founding fathers of the colony occurred the following week on campus in Club 57. This was the first time many of these men had met. However, on this evening they began to form a vision of what they wanted Delta Chi at BGSU to be. It quickly became apparent that they had similar goals around academic performance, anti-hazing programs, social programs, brotherhood, earning a reputation as gentlemen, and someday having a fraternity house. This initial vision is still a guiding force in the chapter today. With the help of the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma, the first group of Founding Fathers was pinned on October 19. Recruiting continued and another group was pinned November 4 with the help of the ladies from Alpha Omicron Pi. A group of 24 men had come together to become the Founding Fathers of the Bowling Colony. The group now had to learn to function like a fraternity. Officers were selected and responsibilities divided. The group had chapter meetings, socials, and participated in intramural sports and philanthropies. They began to function as a colony of Delta Chi.

On November 11, 1998 the Founding Fathers were initiated. The ceremony was held at the local Masonic Hall. This beautiful facility was perfectly suited for the Ritual of Delta Chi. This night has left a lasting impression with all who attended. Men from the Tri-State Chapter, the University of Michigan Chapter, and local Alumni performed the ceremony. The first man to be initiated was Bill Newsted, a local business man and member of the Lodge. He was instrumental in allowing Delta Chi to use the Lodge for this ceremony. At the end of the night the group met to socialize and celebrate this new beginning.

The Following men are credited as being founding fathers of the Bowling Green Chapter:
